Ca. 18th century Chinese Devotee or Disciple in adoration pose. The monk or disciple has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. The figure is remarkable for its realistic yet delicate delineation of the limbs and simple robe which seems to cling to the body. The garment (sanghati) covers both shoulders. Both hands are raised in the adoration mudra. The naturalistic face is handsome with a slight smile and straight nose. His firm eyebrows are arched framing serene, meditative eyes providing for a peaceful countenance. The sculpture has wonderful detail and patina. A serene and meditative piece.
