A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED MAHOGANY VITRINE TABLE IN THE MANNER OF ADAM WEISWEILER, BY FRAN?OIS LINKE, INDEX NO. 114, PARIS, CIRCA 1900 The hinged rectangular top with glazed central panel and circular corners, enclosing a celadon velvet-lined interior and revealing sunflower roundels to each corner, the frieze inset with similar glazed panels with leaf cast borders, raised on four basket-bearing caryatid supports joined by a pierced stretcher centred by a feather canopy, on four spirally-fluted feet terminating in stiff-leaf sabots, the lock plate stamped 'CT LINKE/ SURRURERIE' and '114' 29 ? in. (74.5 cm.) high; 31 in. (78.5 cm.) wide; 21 ? in. (55.5 cm.) deep
This popular model by Linke was introduced in 1890 and, in the present bijouterie glass version, was part of Linke's award-winning display at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900, illustrated in situ in C. Payne, Fran?ois Linke: The Belle Epoque of French Furniture, Woodbridge, 2003, p. 122, pl. 137. Linke created several variants, including a fleur de pêcher marble-topped table, which was displayed in Linke's Place Vend?me showrooms in 1903 (C. Payne, pp. 160 & 161, pls. 171 & 172). Another vitrine-table by Linke was sold Christie's, New York, 18 November 2014, lot 101 ($43,750).
