MASAMITSU: A FINE SILVER FILIGREE AND SHIBAYAMA DISH
By Masamitsu, signed MasamitsuJapan, Meiji period (1868-1912)Of foliate form and finely worked in openwork with silver filigree and inset with eight ivory petal-shaped panels decorated in gold takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with images of flowers and plants. The octagonal center with a gold lacquered kinji ground with Shibayama inlays showing a flower arrangement set on a red-lacquered table. The reverse shows four silver filigree feet and a central panel with dense nashiji and signature MASAMITSU – a known Meiji artist who worked in Shibayama, lacquer and silver.DIAMETER 28.1 cmCondition: Excellent condition.
