LOT NOTESHerbert Davis Richter, RI, RSW, ROI, RBA, RBC, for the first part of his life, worked as a designer and architect at the British Bath Cabinet Company,where he became very well known as a designer, receiving the Royal Society of the Arts Medal in 1897 and the Gold and SIlver Medals at the International Paris Exhibition in 1900. Despite his success as a designer, Richter's main interests lied in the visual arts, and enrolled at Lambeth School, and then London School of Art, to study his craft. Studying closely with John Swann and Sir Frank Brangwyn, when Richter graduated from the London Art School, he achieved immediate commerical success for his vibrant still-lifes, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, the Royal British Society of Artists, the Royal Insitute, and numerous galleries.
