A fine Japanese mixed metal inlaid Panel, by Hagiya Katsuhira, Meiji Period, richly decorated with two birds perched on flowering kiku stems and a thin bamboo stem, a third bird flying above, inlaid in high relief with carved gold, silver, shakudu, red bronze and shibuichi, signed on a tablet KATSUHIRA, original hardwood frame, 25 1/2 x 18 1/2in.Footnote: Hagiya Katsuhira (1804-1886) was born in Mito where he became the greatest metal artist of his generation. The second son of Teramon Yoshige, he began working for the Mito Daimyo in 1844. During his career he trained many of the most important late 19th and early 20th century masters, including Unno Shomin and Kano Natsuo.
