The box is attached to a square foot, separated by a line is a red field, the black upper one decorated with twigs and leaves mady by mother of pearl inlays. The box itself is also square but with rounded edges and consists of a highter bottom and lower lid. The structure of the woven bamboo is red and can be seen on each side. it is framed by black lacquered wood what also forms the lid. The black sections on the side of the box is decorated with adjoined hexagons with blossoms in the center, all made of mother of pearl inlay. The lid bears a detailed landscape scenery also made with various use of inlay designs. There is a water landscape with big rocks popping out from the surface. In the front right vorner, two figures are standing on a cliff, with rocks and a building on their side. Coming from the other side we see the tip of a boat with one man hoising the sail. In the back is a house and temple building nestled into rocks and a big willow standing on the hill. The inlay work is very well executed in different styles, creating textures and shadows.
