coated in a finely-crackled yellowish-green glaze. Below the spout is a floral design in iron oxide. The flat base is unglazed. It has a short hexagonal spout opposite the grooved handle. Looking inside the ewer suggests it lay on its side for a long time as there is a "tide mark" with a line of crystalline growths that matches a line across the base. Possibly from the Changsha kilns, Tang Dynasty or later.? Height 18cm Provenance: From the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), a well-known Oriental collector and dealer from Brighton UK.
