Fitted to an unsigned brown leather strap with base metal pin buckle. 55mm.The German Air Force, or Luftwaffe, commissioned watches from A. Lange & S?hne, Stowa, Wempe, Laco and IWC throughout the 1940s. These pilots' watches had very specific features, typically very large in size and with an oversized crown for easy operation whilst wearing flight gloves. These custom engineered timepieces, known as Beobachtungs-uhren, or observation watches, were issued to pilots for specific missions and then returned once that mission was over. This example displays a Type B dial, showing minutes at five minute intervals and an inner hour track. The case number, FL23883, is engraved to the case of the watch and identifies it as a navigational military tool.
