India, Maratha or Persia. 18th c. Iron with gold inlay (koftgari). Near spherical head fitted with tall central spike and 14 smaller spikes around the circumference. Both sphere halfs decorated with leaf scrolls, stars and an inscription from the Quran: Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, fe-la ghaliba-lekum in yansurukumullahu - If God should aid you, no one can overcome you.
