The Great Black One with six hands striding in alidhasana over a prostrate figure of Ganapati, holding a curved knife and skull cup in his principal hands and a skull-mala, drum, trident and lasso in his radiating arms, dressed in a tiger skin dhoti and adorned with a streaming ribbon, a snake around his neck and a garland of severed heads, the bearded face with bared fangs and bulging eyes surmounted by a skull tiara, backed by an aureole of flames, flanked by two dakinis and surrounded by his five principal attendant deities, clockwise: Shri Devi riding a mule, Trakshe, the Lord of Demons, riding a horse, Kshetrapala riding a bear, the red Takkiraja and the black Jinamitraby and further figures above, all set against a mountainous landscape with a cloudy sky. Each figure identified by a gold inscription. The reverse covered with silk. Aus der Sammlung Gerda S?keland (1931-2019), Dortmund Thangkas, Skulpturen und Ritualgegenst?nde (Lot 305-314 und Lot 435-444) Gerda S?keland wurde 1931 in Duisburg geboren, studierte nach dem Abitur Medizin und war Mutter von vier Kindern. Ihre lebenslange Reiselust rührt m?glicherweise von einer Kindheitserfahrung her. W?hrend des Zweiten Weltkrieges war sie mit der Kinderlandverschickung in Tschechien untergebracht. Nach Kriegsende ist sie von Tschechien, haupts?chlich zu Fu?, zurück in das Ruhrgebiet. Was andere als gro?es Ungemach in Erinnerung behalten haben, scheint ihre Reise- und Abenteuerlust eher angefacht zu haben. Neben zahlreichen L?ndern der Welt, bereiste Gerda S?keland haupts?chlich die Regionen des Himalaya, wie Kaschmir, Bhutan, Nepal und Tibet. Sie lernte die tibetische Sprache, besuchte Kl?ster vor Ort und brachte den Menschen Medikamente und andere Hilfsgüter. Als leidenschaftliche Fotografin erstellte sie zahlreiche Fotodokumentationen, die ver?ffentlicht wurden, beispielsweise im Magazin Trecking Touren, ?Karawanenwege in Himalaya“, 1985.
