Johnstone, the artist who originated the image of the penniless Tax-Payer wearing a barrel held up with suspenders. It was a regular feature in the New York World-Telegram. Johnstone also wrote for the Marx Brothers. This cartoon, drawn in 1942, marks the fifth anniversary of Japan's invasion of China, and shows American plans coming to the rescue of the Chinese dragon being strangled by a snake with the head of Japan's Prime Minister, Hideki Tojo. The matted cartoon measures 15 in x 19 in.
