A Spectacular PAIR of Paris Porcelain Amphora form Vases, circa 1815 to 1820. Decorated with finely painted portraits of ladies from the court of Napoleon the 1st, dressed in Empire style clothing. The handles are in the form of stylized Grecian palms that end surrounding cameos that are decorated with bas-reliefs of Apollo's masks, with emanating sun rays, his hair tied in braid that encircle his face. The backs and the bodies of the vases are superbly decorated in fine gilt and etched decoration, depicting a classical lyre, on a bracket, flanked by opposing flower filled cornucopia that terminate in classical Greek ram's heads. There are a few very minor flakes, near where the base and the body are joined, typical wear to vases of this construction and of this early date. Could easily be repaired by someone who knew the art of restoring porcelain, or could simply be "touched up" with gold gilders paint, not at all noticeable from the front view, and not noticed unless inspected at close quarters. The vases measure 18" high and 8" wide.
