Ippolito CAFFI CAFFI. Macchietta veneziana. Ippolito CAFFI. Macchietta veneziana. Acquarello policromo su carta. 86x45 mm. Incollato su foglio di supporto. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Gustoso e caricaturale schizzo di una persona arcigna vista di profilo. Ippolito Caffi fu pittore ed acquarellista, personaggio dalla vita avventurosa, compì numerosi viaggi in Oriente, riportandone schizzi e dipinti, partecipò ai movimenti per l’Indipendenza Italiana, ritraendo dal vero episodi di guerra. Nella maturità si dedicò anche allo studio delle ‘macchiette’, come attestato da diverse opere quali l’acquarello da lui stesso intitolato “Macchiette popolari veneziane” del 1849, o di due piccolissime vedute della platea Marciana transitate di recente per il mercato antiquario. Queste ultime mostrano rispettivamente La Piazzetta di notte e L'arrivo a Venezia di Francesco Giuseppe ed Elisabetta e sono animate dalla presenza di piccole macchiette, molto simili nella morfologia della folla di personaggi che sostano davanti alla basilica nel quadro “La Basilica di San Marco e la Piazzetta” del 1858. Nel 2009 il Museo Correr presenta in una mostra dedicata ai disegni dell’800 veneziano, diverse ‘macchiette’ prese dai taccuini di schizzi del celebre pittore: “Ecco poi il grande Ippolito Caffi (1809-1866), vedutista ormai liberato dalle suggestioni 'settecento, risorgimentale ed eroico, innamorato della 'gente' (popolani in riposo, polizia austriaca, marinai in attesa d'ingaggio, qualche orientale, maschere): la Venezia di un Ottocento pezzente e sottomesso che cerca riscatto nello sberleffo o nel gesto di ribellione, fissata in quadernetti di acquerelli o in vedute abbozzate su agendine 'moleskine' ante-litteram.” Polychrome watercolor on paper. 86x45 mm. Ippolito Caffi was a painter and watercolorist, a character from the adventurous life, made numerous trips to the East, reporting sketches and paintings, he participated in the movements for Italian Independence, depicting real episodes of war. In maturity he also devoted himself to the study of ‘macchiette’, as evidenced by various works such as the watercolor painting he himself called “Venetian popular Macchiette” of 1849, or of two very small views of the Marciana audience recently passed through the antique market.
