Collection of original etchings, Consisting of 7 original plates, by Rembrandt. 6 after Rembrandt, by Vivares. 25 original plates, by Claude. 1660. 3 ditto, by Dominique Barriere. 1651. 5 ditto, by Horizonti. 47 ditto, by Hollar. 1641-1647. 6 ditto, by Theodore van Kessel. 1654. 10 ditto, by Runciman. 17 original plates, by Cornelius Bega. 1654. 24 ditto, by Castiliogne. 7 ditto, by Silvestre. 43 by various artists, after Rembrandt, Du Jardin della Bella, &c. 200.London, Printed by J. Kay, Welbeck Street, Cavendish Square, [1826] Folio, 365x262 mm. Contemporary Moroccan red binding, gold ornamented frame on the covers, spine gilt. Title leaf in letterpress and 200 etchings of various sizes mounted on blank leaves. Also 22 Callot plates are added, with the complete series of Les grandes misères de la guerre, 1633 18 etchings in the second state of three. Armorial bookplate of Melville glued to the inside cover. Slight defects to the binding, entirely good state of conservation. First edition. Wonderful collection with seven engravings by Rembrandt, printed by the original matrices. The engravers collected here are: Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Dutch, 1606-1669; Vivare?s, Franc?ois, French, 1709-1780; Lorrain, Claude, French, 1600-1682; Barrie?re, Dominique, French, ca. 1620-1678; Bloemen, Jan Frans van, called Horizonti, Flemish, 1662-1749; Hollar, Wenceslaus, Bohemian, 1607-1677, Theatrum mulierum; Kessel, Theodore van, Dutch, 1620-1693. Alcune animali; Runciman, Alexander, 1736-1785; Bega, Cornelis, Dutch, 1620-1664; Giovanni Francesco Castiglione, Italian, 1641–1710; Israel Silvestre, French, 1621–1691; Jacques Callot, French, 1592 – 1635. Some copies issued without date of publication on title leaf.This specimen contains in addition the 22 engravings of Jacques Callot, normally not present in the specimens preserved in museums.
