Albrecht DURER Albrecht DURER. The little horse. Albrecht DURER1471-1528 The little horse.1505 Bulino; 185x118 mm; margine. Bell’esemplare. Copia ottocentesca dell’originale di Durer stampata nel 1505.Il giovane cavallo si trova su una striscia di terreno di fronte a un'architettura ad arco prospettico. I quarti anteriori, le narici dilatate, il collo eretto e il labbro superiore che espone gli incisivi sono i chiari segni di un focoso atteggiamento. è accompagnato da un uomo che indossa un'armatura moderna di tre quarti, mentre impugna una alabarda e indossa un immaginario elmo a farfalla e scarpe alate. The year 1505 above finds its equivalent in the cube-shaped stone at the bottom of the photo, on which Dürer has set his monogram. Jens Sroka interprets the motif of the smoking bowl in Dürer's engraving as "encrypted reference to the instinctive drive and the voluptuousness of the stallion" (Sroka 2004, p. 254). For him, the theme of the pony is the moderation of human sensuality by reason. However, Matthias Mende is not convinced by this interpretation, which goes back to Erwin Panofsky: "The monumental tranquility of the animal belies such thoughts.
