Sotto il riquadro di sinistra il nome del disegnatore “P. Paolo Drei”. In basso a dx: “Romae … Anno 1635 / Si stampano per Gio. Giacomo de Rossi alla Pace”. Lievi difetti sui margini, ma ottimo stato di conservazione.

Extremely rare flying sheet. Detailed map, with many legends indicating the tombs of the popes and other parts of the caves. On the left-hand panel the presentation of the map, on the right one it is dedicated to Cardinal Barberino di Benedetto Drei, a fattore of the fabrica of S. Pietro. La presente Pianta “compare già nell’Indice delle stampe di Gio. Giacomo de Rossi del 1677, stampata “in foglio papale”. Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi, 1627 – 1691, engraver and publisher, specialized in the production of maps for the conclaves: his activity is certified from 1638 to 1691 and he devoted himself mainly to urbanistic prints of Rome and its monuments, both ancient and modern . He forged a strong and lasting collaboration with Giovanni Battista Falda, which led to the production of considerable quantities of prints and maps of Rome. It was thanks to him that the local print shop became famous internationally, making it the largest producer and merchant of prints in Rome.
