A Stunning and Unique Irish Ecclesiastical 18ct Gold And Silver Gilt Jewel Set Chalice In the French Gothic style with lobed base set with oval faceted amethysts and circular faceted garnets; hexagonal foot with cast panels depicting various ecclesiastical symbols, the threaded stem comprising central orb set with emerald cut rock crystals. Beaded rope borders throughout, the bowl set with further faceted amethyst and garnets and decorated with cast panels depicting fruit and grain. Fully hallmarked to bowl for 18ct gold, full silver hallmark to underside for John Smyth & Sons, 17 Wicklow Street, Dublin ,1898. Inscribed to base 'Presented by the priests of the Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly to the Very Reverend Canon Cahill PP VG Tipperary, on the Golden Jubilee, June 2nd 1899. Height, 10 ? inches / 26cm. Total weight 881.5 grams, Cup diameter 8.7 cms. Estimated gold weight 6-7oz considering depth of bowl. Please see accompanying images. Reluctant sale due to personal circumstances.
