DescriptionAn antique Phnom Kulen style stone Hari Hari or Vishnu torso. Vishnu is both world protector and preserver, restorer of moral order - he is all-powerful and all-pervasive by nature. This style corresponds to the first half of the ninth century and the reign of Jayavarman II. It also marks a turning point in the evolution of the artistic imagery and prepares for the transformation towards classic Angkorian art. The elegant silhouette of the sculpture expresses the vigour, force and power of the God. The face, large and calm shows a continuous and assertive eyebrow line. The moustache is well defined. Phnom Kulen art was able to preserve and expand upon the character of force and the beauty of the masterpiece of the 6th and 7th centuries. The Vishnu is loose mounted on a metal and wood mount (later). Please contact us for high resolution images of the piece.??
