A Victorian steel full suit of armour in Mediaeval style, late 19th century, articulated throughout, with elaborate scrolling foliate surface decoration overall, approximately 180cm high when assembled Sometimes described as theatrical props, these Victorian suits of armour are actually far too intricately conceived and so time consuming to don, that realistically it is most unlikely that they were really intended for use in theatre, although some might have been. More likely they were made for display as the newly monied middle classes emulated the interiors of the houses of the nobility Cf Christie's South Kensington, Masters & Makers, 24th March 2009, lot 334 Also Christie's South Kensington, Interiors, 24th February 2015, lot 385 Also Wilkinson's Doncaster, Period Oak, 28th February 2016, lot 579
