Egypt, Late Dynastic period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A petite cast-bronze votive sarcophagus of a rectangular form. The top is surmounted by a snake coiled in a layered lemniscate style, and two perforated suspension loops are on the top and one side. The hollow interior contains a fragment of woven mummy linen. Votive sarcophagi like these examples were filled with the mummified remains of the animal represented on the top and offered to specific deities as gifts so their prayers could be heard.
