Egypt, Ptolemaic period, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A hand-carved stone sarcophagus of a petite form with a tapered top portion representative of an obelisk with a flat base, tall sides, and a hollow verso meant to hold an offering like a mummified shrew or another petite sacrificial animal. The front of the sarcophagus depicts a simplified effigy of Osiris in low relief, standing in mummiform atop fused legs, and wearing an Atef crown flanked with ostrich feathers atop his head.
