Ancient Near East, Sassanian (Sasanian, Sasanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. An intriguing three-sided stamp seal, hand-carved from translucent quartz. The seal is perforated lengthwise with a suspension hole, and each of the three faces depicts a stylized animal - a zebu bull with a large hump atop its back; a striding lion with a curled tail and a raised head; and a mythical winged horse with a bowed head and a single feathered wing. The seal is mounted within a modern silver (69-76%) setting with forked arms emanating from a central body and suspension loop. Custom putty impressions included.
