Near East, Islamic, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. An illuminated page from an Islamic text, perhaps a passage from the Koran (Quran) or a work of poetry, presenting vivid Arabic text in elegant black script with 8 rectangular motifs highlighted by red rosettes surrounded by blue and yellow blossoms against gold leaf grounds and with blue borders, 4 small rectangular motifs down the center with gold leaf flourishes against a blue ground with red borders, and finally a linear border of gold leaf, blue, and red hues. The text is ruled in 12 lines. On the verso of the frame is an old note that reads, "Manuscript Persian fin 16 siecle - 700." A lovely illuminated page framed under glass.
