Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Paracas culture, ca. 500 to 300 BCE; Huari (Wari) culture, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A lovely ensemble of three colorful textile fragments, each tightly woven from either natural cotton or camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers. First is a Paracas textile fragment depicting an abstract face surmounted with a feathered headdress. Second is a Huari fragment with a vertical register of inversely corresponding waves as well as an abstract head with a drooping coiffure. The largest is a Huari fragment depicting an abstract anthropomorphic figure with squat legs and a pink head. Lucite display stands for photography purposes only.
