Africa, Guinea, 20th century CE. A wonderful, hand-carved Angbai mask from the Toma peoples of Guinea/Liberia. The mask is quite sizeable, presents an overall ovoid form with three curved horns atop the forehead. The forehead is incised with an attractive nested chevron motif. Below this is a large high-relief nose flanked by openwork eyes. Size: 22" H (55.9 cm); 29" H (73.7 cm) on included custom stand.
