Description This is an important English longcase clock by Thos Clowes of Nantwich, England. It has the maker's name above the clock dial, the dial is a large brass piece with fine engraving, and it has the original pendulum and three weights. Thomas Clowes worked in the area in the late 1700's.
Nantwich was an important center for clockmaking in England, and the Nantwich Museum in Cheshire has only located and catalogued about 140 clocks by the different makers in Nantwich. Only two (2) clocks by Thomas Clowes are known to exist, according to an article by Andrew Lamberton titled "Clock Making in Nantwich". Size: 21 1/2 in. wide x 11 in. deep x 89 1/2 in. high (about 7 1/2 ft tall.)
