Dark red lacquered Edo period suit-of-armour yoroi with dark blue cords (tetsu shu'urushinuri kon'ito
odoshi dōmaru gusoku).
A black lacquered sixty-two plate helmet (rokujūniken sujikabuto) with rare red lacquered movable small
fukikaeshi decorated with a gilded crest in relief of three small oak leaves inside a circle (maru ni mitsu
hosokashiwa mon, also: Tosa kashiwa mon) of the Yamauchi Clan from Tosa (part of modern Kōchi
Province). The helmet has in front a black lacquered wooden mask with horns maedate. Four-piece red
lacquered neckguards (shikoro).
A red lacquered chin covering facial mask (tsubakurobō) from which hangs a rather small four-piece
gorget. The arms are protected by Japanese mail (kusari) with gilded gourd shaped metal pieces over
black brocade (fukubekote). Two piece red lacquered iyozanedō cuirass with laced horizontal metal
lamellae. From the cuirass hangs a skirt of six four-piece kusazuri. The hips and upper legs are protected
with brocade with black lacquered metal karuta-plates decorated with a large red sun and a three-oak-
leaves design in gold lacquer. The lower legs have suneate with vertical metal plates (shinosuneate). In a
box for a suit-of-armour decorated with a slightly different the Tosa oak leaves mon (also used by the
Yamauchi Clan). Helmet: Muromachi Period, yoroi: Edo Period.
