Description
A PALE CELADON JADE BRUSH REST, QING
China, late 19th – early 20th century. Carved as a reclining monkey with a long tail coiled to its back. The jade is of an even tone with few white streaks and natural fissures, highlighting the fur of the monkey. Associated hardwood base. (2)
Condition: Excellent condition. Some old wear, especially near the drilling, due to extensive use. Natural flaws and fissures to mineral.
Provenance: English private collection.
May be used as a brush rest or, alternating, a pendant due to drilling at the mouth.
