A LACQUER-GILT PALE CELADON JADE FIGURE OF GUANYIN, LATE QING TO REPUBLIC
China, late Qing dynasty to Republic period. Entirely coated in gold lacquer, apart from the serene face which is expertly carved with downcast eyes. The bodhisattva wearing a cowl over finely incised hair, long flowing robes and cradling a ruyi scepter in one hand. Associated wood base. (2)
Condition: The gold lacquer coating, which may have been added at a later time, has worn off significantly due to extensive handling and shows some verdigris, the base with minor wear and some chipping, otherwise in good condition.
Provenance: Old Canadian collection acquired before 2000 from a local estate.
