AN AMBER FIGURE OF A FISHERMAN, QING
China, 1780-1880. The man holding his latest catch - a huge fish - in both hands, seeming to exclaim his joy about his recent success. He wears a traditional cap as well as a vest that reveals his bare belly.
Condition: Good condition with fine patina, some natural flaws in the material, old wear, minor abrasions and a few tiny fleabites here and there.
Provenance: Collection of the late Gerard Arnhold (1918-2010), philanthropist, collector and supporter of the Oriental Museum Durham for many years.

The opaque amber is of an intense, golden-brown and almost flawless color. Rare!
