Description
A CANTON LACQUER HEXAGONAL TEA CADDY WITH ORIGINAL TEA CONTAINERS, QING
China, 1644-1912. The octagonal box on four carved wood claw-shaped feet and with a hinged cover, painted all over with old black, gold and red lacquer showing court scenes framed by intricate floral patterns, opening to reveal a pair of original incised pewter lidded tea containers.
Condition: Fair condition with wear and losses to the lacquer as well as dents to the pewter caddies, key is missing.
Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo- Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
