A TIBETAN GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI, 19TH- EARLY 20TH CENTURY
Tibet, c. 1860-1930. Seated in padmasana on a sealed double lotus base, showing the bhumisparsa mudra, the earth-touching gesture, and wearing elaborate and finely incised robes showing the Eight Buddhist Symbolds (bajixiang) on the back as well as a crown, ushnisha and lotus earrings.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and small dents and nicks.
Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo- Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
