A HERUKA VAJRABHAIRAVA BRONZE, 19TH CENTURY
Tibet. Finely cast and incised depiction of Vajrabhairava in his wrathful Heruka appearance with his consort Vajra Vetali, standing atop a bull and a human figure, holding a shamanic staff, wearing a skull crown and a tiger fur loincloth.
Condition: Excellent condition with some wear and nice, darkbrown patina. Sealed. Minor verdigris.
Provenance: The Siegfried and Diane Hearst Collection. Diane, a concert pianist, and Siegfried, a New York NBC impresario who worked with Rubinstein, Horowitz, Klemperer and other legendary pianists, were both avid collectors of Asian art for a period spanning over half a century.
