A MONGOLIAN COPPER REPOUSSé BUDDHA TORSO FROM ONGI MONASTERY, 18TH CENTURY
Mongolia, 18th century or earlier. The torso with remnants of gilt, the Buddha with a high ushnisha, long incised hair, wearing necklaces and jewelry.
Condition: Heavily damaged with severe dents, losses.
Provenance: German private collection. Inscription to wood base.
Damaged during the anti-religious purges by the communists in Mongolia that left Ongi Monastery destroyed.
Modern wood base.
