A BRONZE HEAD OF BUDDHA, SUKHOTHAI
Thailand, 1238-1438. The Buddha showing a serene expression, with slender lips and down-cast eyes underneath high arched eyebrows. Fitted hardwood base from around 1900.
Condition: Beautiful patina with malachite and soil encrustation. The hardwood base with minor wear.
Provenance: From the collection of Georg Weifert (1850-1937). Thence by descent in the same family. Weifert was a Serbo-Austrian industrialist and the first governor of the Federal Bank of the Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
