A THAI REPOUSSé GOLD BUDDHA FIGURE
Thailand, 17th – 18th century. The gold Buddha executed in repoussé, the lotus pedestal on a four-stepped hexagonal base still showing the slag core. The Buddha appears to be walking, his raised left hand showing the abhayamudra. His robe is covering his left shoulder as well as his entire lower body up to the ankles, his head is crowned with an ushnisha and a high ketumala flame finial on top.
Condition: Overall good condition with minor loss of material and repairs to feet, the figure glued to the pedestal, expected traces of age and wear around the Buddha’s right shoulder and the lower part of the base.
Provenance: A private owner, acquired from the collection of Dr. Istvan Zelnik several years ago.
