BRENDEL, ALBERT HEINRICH (1827 - 1895)Sheep in the stable, 1888. ?Oil on cardboard. ?Signed and dated lower right: A. Brendel 88. ?22 x 30 cm. ? ?Provenance: Swiss private collection. ?Exhibition: London Christal Palace. ? ?Prof. Albert Heinrich Brendel was a German animal and landscape painter who, in addition to painting, studied at the Veterinary School in Berlin. Animated by the landscape painter Wilhelm Schirmer, he attended the Academy of Arts and devoted himself first to landscape and then to marine painting. His preference for animals, which he also mainly depicted in his paintings, was shown early on. Between 1851 and 1864 he lived and worked in Paris, Sicily and Fontainebleau and learned from numerous well-known artists. Brendel's talent as well as his dedication to art and his hard work were rewarded with great recognition both in his hometown Berlin and in the art metropolis Paris. Animiert vom Landschaftsmaler Wilhelm Schirmer besuchte er die Akademie der Künste und widmete sich zun?chst der Landschafts- und dann der Marinemalerei. Schon früh zeigte sich seine Vorliebe für Tiere, welche er auch vermehrt in seinen Bildern darstellte. Zwischen 1851 und 1864 lebte und arbeitete er in Paris, Sizilien und Fontainebleau und lernte unter anderem unter zahlreichen namenhaften Künstlern. Brendels Talent sowie seine Hingabe zur Kunst und seine flei?ige Arbeit wurden sowohl in seiner Heimatstadt Berlin als auch in der Kunstmetropole Paris mit gro?er Anerkennung belohnt.
