Description Part of an estate collection of Victorian jewelry, much of which is offered in today's sale. Antique black carved pendant with a flat-topped oval centerpiece. The black material for the most part has a matte dull surface and the back looks like it was sanded flat. A large loop made of the same material serves as a hanging loop. The black material is described as Vulcanite,which is a cheaper hard rubber material that can be cast into rather intricate shapes and looks like jet, a natural variety of hard coal that could be carved. Both were popular in English Victorian jewelry. Length 2-1/4" long. Fine condition, no damage apparent. See images for detail.
