Description Antique English school oil painting on canvas depicting a scene from "The Corsair"; a poem by Lord Byron, circa 1814 and also interpreted as a melo-drama by E. C. Holland, Esq., featured in The American MonthlyMagazine and Critical Review, Volume III published in 1818 for H. Biglow and L. L. Holly. The scene depicts the love of the sailor Conrad leaving in his ship as she watches from a balcony. To the lower rightpages of a book are open to show the phrase "It is no dream and I am obsolete" the phrase "Oublier ne Puis" (Cannot Forget) can also be seen. On the pages of the book the work is also initialed with a conjoined "MSR" anddated 1837. Mounted in a gold leaf wooden frame. Canvas on stretcher measures approx. 34" height x 28" width (86.4cm x 71.1cm). Measures approx. 42 1/2" height x 37 1/2" width (108cm x 95.3cm) overall includingframe.
