Shute BARRINGTON (1734-1826) was the 5th son of John BARRINGTON (1678-1734) 1st Viscount Barrington by Anne DAINES. He married firstly in 1761 the Lady Diana BEAUCLERK (1736-1766) daughter of Charles BEAUCLARK 2nd Duke of St Albans and secondly in 1770 Jane GUISE (died 1807) daughter of Sir John GUISE.Shute BARRINGTON was educated at Eton School and later Merton College Oxford. In 1756 he was ordained a deacon, in 1768 a Canon of St Pauls, later a Canon of St George Chapel Windsor and in 1769 Bishop of Llandaff 1769. In 1782 he was installed as Bishop of Salisbury, during which time he was Chancellor of the Order of the Garter. In 1791 he was translated as Bishop of Durham where he died in office.Shute BARRINGTON was first installed as a Bishop in 1769 and as a result the engraving occurred after that date.
