Henry MOURDANT (1623-1697) 2nd Earl of Peterborough, son and heir of John MOURDANT (1598/9-1642), who in 1628 was created 1st Earl of Peterborough, by Elizabeth HOWARD (1603-1671) daughter of William HOWARD Lord Effingham. Henry MORDAUNT was an English soldier and courtier, who faithfully supported the royalist cause, in 1644 he married Lady Penelope O'BRIAN only daughter of Henry O'BRIAN (1588-1639) 5th Earl of Thomond and Irish peer by Mary BRERETON. The had two daughters and on his death the Earldom passed to his nephew Charles MORDAUNT.
