Description DOMINGOS SEQUEIRA - 1768-1837, Study for family portrait of the Counts of Redondo and Marquises of Borba, India ink on paper, unsigned. Notes: "In the center we see 3 profile portraits of the Count and Countess of Redondo (2nd Marquises of Borba) and their eldest son. Over the years, Domingos Sequeira has worked several times for this family. Around 1817 he drew in a large portrait where the three family generations, grandparents, parents and the extensive offspring of the children appear, in addition to two other ladies of the family, all lined up in profile (auction Correio Velho, 2008). This note seems to be a previous study for this age, where it still only registers 3 portraits but where the traits of D. Fernando, 2nd Marquis of Borba, who Sequeira portrayed at least on 3 different occasions are clearly recognized. At the top of the sheet, there are still six sketches of a group consisting of a woman with child, possibly studies for a Virgo with Child and in the middle of the sheet, a study of the male sitting on a pallet. The remaining area of ??the sheet is filled with arithmetic estimates, with the word 'Owes' among them. The sheet has 3 sides with regular trimming and one side (left) with irregular trimming that looks like it originally belonged to a notebook or album. This drawing containing simple sketches or 'thoughts', attests to the way in which the artist worked out his ideas, often working simultaneously on more than one project."
