OUTSTANDING CHINESE IMPERIAL JIFU DYNASTY ROBE, C19th.
Silk with gold thread, finely embroidered with symbols of good luck, flowers, bats, butterflies and nine five clawed dragons (eight are visible, the ninth is hidden under the lapel). The lower part is decorated with a design of ocean waves and ground to symbolise the union of the people. The parasol & the golden fishes are auspicious protective symbols against evil and poverty. The colour brown was uniquely used for young members of the imperial clan, including the sons-in-law of the emperor and imperial dukes . 126 x 140 cm.
