Vincent Price Collection.Early 19th century hand painted and framed allegorical representation of Airavata, a divine white elephant of the Hindu faith with multiple trunks and tusks. Although Airavata is traditionally depicted as the mount of Indra, the chief of the Hindu divinities, in this rare depiction he is modeled as carrying Varaha, the Divine Boar and one of the principal avatars of Vishnu. Presented in a decorative linen matte and gilt wooden frame. This work was originally sold in the 1960s as part of the Vincent Price Art Collection for Sears, Roebuck & Co. Art 5.5"H x 4.25"W.
