Description An antique Khmer Vishnu in the Angkor Wat style. This version of Vishnu is the supreme form of this God. The hieratic expression of the deity is consistent with the somewhat rigid expression of statuary of the Angkor Wat period. Also typical for the style is the meticulous detailing of the carving of the Goda??s elaborate crown and stylised treatment of his pleated sampot with its narrow anchor-shaped panels in front surmounted by the overhanging flap of the ruffled end of the cloth. Although the figurea??s hands holding the attributes that would confirm identity have been broken from its arms, four arm figures such as this, crowed with tiara and high coiffure cover, can confidently be interpreted as images of Vishnu. The Vishnu is mounted on a wood base (later). Please contact us for high resolution images of the piece.?
