Extraordinary, 12th C. Chinese Yuan Dynasty Period, blue and white floral pattern bowl. Finest porcelain potted in slightly deep shallow vessel form, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, a slightly flared lip and raised with round shallow concave foot base. All reserved in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the cobalt fine blue color. Blue and white porcelain in Chinese it is called Qing Hua Ci. It is the most important variety of China’s porcelain. It was originated in the Yuan Dynasty. Its color does not easily fade and durability is longer. It used cobaltous oxide as the colorant. Patterns were directly painted onto the inner body and burnt after glaze was applied on it. The center interior delicately fine depicted flowers blooms water plants among two crane, tendril, and fresh foliage, enclosed with triple fine blue rings. The outer interior rim decorated with flowers blooms interspersed with interlocking foliage surrounded the rim, enclosed with double fine blue rings. The upper exterior mouth rim festooned with rectangles geometric and auspicious pattern, enclosed with double fine blue rings. The graceful crane is a common emblem in paintings. The name guan is used for both storks and cranes and the same symbolism applies to both. A characteristic heaped and piled effect, the underglaze grayish-blue concentrates in certain areas, bubbling through the surface of the glaze. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
