The under base bears a reign mark, a horizontal six underglaze blue script characters reign mark, enclosed within blue rectangle frame, Made In The Years of Wanli Reign Period of The Great Ming Dynasty.
Chinese Ming Dynasty Wanli dragon porcelain pen rest. The Porcelain potted thick, in semi rectangle flat base, slight tall, the top carved like five mountain rock where the middle is higher than the left, the right side, and the most corner side. All reserved in clean white underglaze base color which contrast against the Wucai design color. The every mountain pen adorned with archaic five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst flames and vapors, with face and upper forward , slight right side and slight left side, appendage outstretched toward the heavens, above trashing Lishui wavy water. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-Shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the receded central interior base left white underglaze. The glaze is seamless and gives off a beautiful luster, with the colors maintaining excellent vibrancy. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned.
