Mr. Holmes graduated from Gadsden State College in 1972. Upon graduation he worked as a project development contractor. Over his career he worked and managed large mega complexes which included build out of stores for the Macys corporation. Often he would need to travel overseas to procure the right materials to complete the beautiful interiors as demanded by the corporation. The travel time allowed him access into many foreign countries where he searched for unique and unusual items to bring back to his wife and daughter. At this point in time they are reducing the size of their collections allowing others to add these items into their collections.
Working large projects were very time consuming and rewarding financially, taking great pride in his accomplishments, his most rewarding projects were those that he volunteered for Central and South America. Building schools, medical centers, training facilities, churches or just shelter for those in need he found to be the most worthy of his time. His projects were in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay and Peru, all countries that needed a man that openly gave his time and money selflessly.
The items in this sale all have a special meaning to him, some he purchased others were donated for time and effort as gifts for reaching out to help others. All are truly rare and unique items that are in pristine museum quality condition. Stunning, Rare, Chinese 17th.C Qing Dynasty Period, Qianlong peacock green sgrafitto floral pear porcelain vase. Finely potted in Chinese traditional YuHuChun shape vessel, the pear shaped bottle vase, a bottom-heavy body tapered gracefully to slender waisted neck flaring at the mouth rim, supported on a short spreading foot ring. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in peacock green under glazed base color which contrasts against the pale white fine color. In Chinese, it is called Lu You. It is a lime glaze that contains a copper oxide, which in the oxidative atmosphere, is green. Ever since the Ming Dynasty, there have been high temperature green and low temperature green glazes. The “peacock green” glaze produced in the Period of the Qing is most precious. The main body and the neck delicately fine depicted with big lotus flowers blooms interspersed scrolling foliage and tendril, wanzi motif, enclosed with repeating interlocking key fret on the shoulder and foot base rim, repeating interlocking taotie mask on the upper mouth rim with a single thick gilt line. Lotus is one of the most significant flowers in Chinese culture. It symbolizes the holy seat of Buddha. Because the flower rises from the mud and blooms in exquisite beauty it symbolizes perfection and purity of both the heart and mind. It also represents long life and honor. The lotus flower is depicted in Chinese art, poetry, and?architecture. The porcelain displays a subtle sheen as the light ricochets across the finely glazed exterior. The porcelain conformed all required specimen to be high valued Chinese porcelain wares, with the finest material, the whiteness, the glaze, and the carving. Without overlap, the outlines of the design, well carved, clear, subtle, distinct, and the shape is uniformly proportioned.
