Ming Dynasty Period (AD 1368-1644) Gilt Bronze Buddha figure of White Chakrasamvara, (represent manifestation of Chinese 18 arms CunDi Buddha Bodhisattva), primarily a meditational deity belonging to the Anuttarayoga classification of Buddhist Tantra. The Sahaja Shri Heruka [Chakrasamvara] has a body like an autumn moon, with three semi-peaceful face appearance, each with three seeing eyes, the hair is a topknot adorned with a wish-fulfilling jewel and a half-vajra beneath the a crown of dry skulls. The multiple hands in numerous meaningful gestures and holding various auspicious attributes. Wearing elaborate jewelries and armbands, including the elongated necklace of fifty fresh heads wrapped from shoulder flow down on the lower skirt. Two hand raise in chest level, holding a crescent knife in the left [hand] and a blood filled skull cup in the right; with one of the additional left hand raised, holding a menacing sword. The figure is in a standing posture on his four legs upon a double lotus oval throne; his right legs are bent pressing down on Kalaratri, the left legs extended on Bhairava. The underside with incised Quadre-foil flori-form petals visvavajra mark surrounded the centralized DaiJi.
The reverse side of Buddha shows a rectangular cut-out above the hip, a precisely fitting bronze comes with the sculpture. Extensive trace of gilt remain on surface, with red pigment on hair. This sculpture appears to be the perfect example, by any artistic tradition, both for technical precision and exquisite form. The proportions of the body are exact and the overall presence and beauty make this sculpture a precious artistic treasure.
