Description An Antique 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Bowl with Provenance. Knights and merchants are depicted on the exterior of the bowl with their power animals - dragons, cow, elephant, bat. Bowl is seated on white base at the bottom and with the gilded rim on top. Underside mark from the Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. Size h 2 3/8 X 6 3/8. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
